“Our affects are the inner manifestations of Yahweh.

But this is very difficult to grasp, because we identify with our affects. We even call them ours –“my affect,” “my anger,” “my love.” It would be more accurate to leave out the personal possessive pronoun. We tend to identify with our affects and so long as we do that we cannot see them objectively as objects. If I fall into a rage or a passion of any kind, in the terms of this book that we are studying, those phenomena are manifestations of Yahweh.

That won’t be hard for you to accept once you accept one other equation, namely Yahweh equals the unconscious. It won’t be hard for you to accept that affects are products of the unconscious. We don’t generate them –they happen to us. Yahweh = the unconscious. For the purpose of Answer to Job, that’s the equation to keep in mind.”
